Biography
Elmer Shoebel inizia la carriera accompagnando film muti e passando poi al vaudeville. Suona nel 1920 con la 20th Century Jazz Band a Chicago. Tra il 1922 e il 1923 entra nei New Orleans Rhythm Kings e successivamente guida formazioni proprie come la Midway Gardens Orchestra e gli Original Memphis Melody Boys. Negli anni ’30 lavora come capo arrangiatore per la Warner Brothers e dal 1940 continua a suonare con Conrad Janis, i Rhythm Rebels di Blue Steele e suoi gruppi a St. Petersburg. Compone standard come “Bugle Call Rag”, “Stomp Off, Let’s Go”, “Nobody’s Sweetheart Now”, “Farewell Blues” e “Prince of Wails”.
