Biography
Mills fondò insieme al fratello Jack la “Mills Music”, un’agenzia musicale con cui pubblicò alcuni standard jazz, tra cui “In a Sentimental Mood”, “Sophisticated Lady” e “It don’t mean a Thing (if it ain’t got that Swing)”, per cui si era occupato del testo. Mills scoprì molti artisti dell’epoca, tra cui ad esempio Duke Ellington e Benny Goodman; ben presto si circondò di molti artisti dell’epoca, come il già citato Benny Goodman e Jimmy Dorsey, che diedero vita con lui all’LP “Irving Mills and his Hotsy Totsy Gang”. Fu uno dei più grandi produttori di jazz, infatti pubblicò più di mille registrazioni.
